Sustainability at JOST

Environment

Climate and Environment

As a global manufacturer with 33 production sites, we have a responsibility to continuously reduce our environmental footprint. Resource efficiency is firmly embedded in our corporate strategy. Our goal is to improve our environmental performance per unit of output – becoming more efficient and more sustainable while supporting our customers on their path to greener supply chains.

We aim to minimize our environmental impact across all operations. To this end, we set measurable targets, invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy, and report transparently on our progress.

It is our goal to make our production sites safe and sustainable. To ensure safe and sustainable operations, we rely on:

  • Systematic employee training on environmental and safety standards
  • Regular reviews of our health, safety, quality and environmental management systems
  • Proactive risk identification through our risk management framework
  • Dedicated on-site environmental experts
  • Regular external audits as part of our ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification programs

Emissions, energy, water, waste

Our long-term ambition: We continuously improve our environmental performance – by reducing emissions, increasing energy efficiency and using resources responsibly.

  • Our original target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 CO₂eq emissions per production hour by 50% by 2030 (vs. 2020) was achieved in 2024 – six years ahead of schedule.
  • New target: 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions per production hour by 2035 (new base year 2025 including Hyva).
  • Adjusted for M&A, JOST reduced its CO₂eq intensity by 59.3% vs. 2020, to 2.56 kg CO₂eq per production hour.
  •  In-house solar power generation nearly tripled to 2.7 million kWh in 2025 (+172%).
  • Renewable energy accounted for 16.1% of total Group energy consumption.
  • Total energy intensity improved by 6.9% to 11.0 kWh per production hour.
  • We use water primarily for cleaning production facilities, e-coating processes and employee hygiene. In regions such as India, we collect rainwater to reduce tap water consumption.
  • Waste avoidance and separation remain core elements of our waste management. Where possible, we return reusable materials to the resource cycle.

Our focus areas

Our sustainability framework is built around three pillars – each with clear targets, concrete measures and transparent reporting.
